Bucher/Borges Group (BBG) was the interior design architect and LEED® consultant for the 46,200 square foot Danfoss Group Global (Danfoss) flex space building in White Marsh, MD.  The structure contains both offices and light manufacturing.  Danfoss, a world leader in sustainable products, is an international company that produces HVAC equipment and control systems.  Because of Danfoss’ commitment to being green, the LEED® certification of high performance in human and environmental health was particularly important.  Some of the many sustainable technologies used include:

  • Daylighting controls that automatically adjust the lighting level near the windows, depending on the amount of sunlight to reduce energy use;
  • Drought resistant landscaping (plants that do not need to be watered after the first year) to lower water usage;
  • Low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emitting materials (adhesives, paints, etc.) to improve indoor air quality;
  • Use of recycled and regional materials to lower transportation energy;
  • Reduced construction waste to lessen landfill;
  • Reduced water use (e.g. waterless urinals) to conserve clean water;
  • EnergyStar appliances and increased insulation for energy savings.
